brown who does very well in special elections. he's the republican who stunned the world in 2010 and grabbed a seat. he lost it in the tough election this time around but in a special election, a low voter turnout, he'll be strong and we're not seeing much from the national democrats yet and i think they got a real problem here. >> frank, talk about that. because obviously if the democrats only -- and duval patrick wants someone interim in the post aend not run in the special election, wouldn't it make sense that person would gain the traction they need in a special election to face-off against someone with star power like scott brown? we look at the latest wbr poll with 58% favorable even after the bruising against elizabeth warren. do we know if he wants it? >> we don't know officially. his father died a couple of days ago so all attempts to get to him is put off and you saw him election night, came out and gracious and talked about coming back, the sub text there was there's a special election and farewell address to the u.s. senate, last couple of weeks ago, he said the same

income tax increases. some of the new england moderates, scott brown and susan collins. it doesn't seem like it would be as challenging to get something out of the senate. he is not going to stick his neck out and get something to the senate floor to have the house blow it up. >> marty, we have heard voices saying the same thing. you have tom coal saying we should go long with the tax increases. >> even in the minority. the republicans were 20 votes short. we sometimes forget, that's significant. they were only 20 votes short. nancy pelosi and the democrats, the idea of getting all the democrats to sign and bring the bill to the floor. if you can get 15 it 20 republicans to also sign on, maybe the tom cole types, they say we are not going to get a better deal and we don't want the party to pay hell for this. >> it seems unlikely. it's almost unheard of for a minority party and force action by the majority party on the floor. it might sound like a nice idea and say we are all unified. if you find the 15 or 20 republicans, good luck. they would be outcasts in their conference. as it is, t

irresponsible. jonathan, you look at the fact that they're not being honestabout it. senator scott brown wrote heading back to d.c. just learned the president reached out to senate gop leadership with a proposal. it is the first such proposal to be put forth. first proposal? the president put multiple proposals on the table. but he's not the only one, jonathan, that has said this. just listen to senator mcconnell today. listen to this. >> i say i'm a little frustrated because we've been asking the president and the democrats to work with us on a bipartisan agreement for months. the president chose to spend his time on the campaign trail. now, republicans have bent over backwards. we stepped way, way out of our comfort zone. we wanted an agreement. but we had no takers. >> just to be factual, on november 29th, the president made his opening offer to the gop. mcconnell actually burst into laughter. you can't laugh at a non-proposal. on november 17th, the president made a second offer with concessions on taxes and entitlement. so here's three occasions. yet, they claim no proposal. or this is the
